AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Junior or senior with at least one undergraduate semester remaining. Demonstrated excellence in print journalism. Students who have made major contributions of time and effort to the editorial success of a campus publication. Demonstrated achievement in the classroom with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms are available in the Department of Communication and Journalism office.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Mid-to-late April
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A committee of Department of Communication and Journalism faculty members, including at least one staff member who advises a campus publication, will select the recipient based on demonstrated excellence in print journalism and commitment to the news editorial field.
SELECTION DEADLINE: Mid-to-late April
NOTIFICATION:
The Department Chair will send a notification letter to the recipient. The Chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The award may be split between individuals. This scholarship was created by Joanne Friedrick, a 1978 graduate of UWEC’s Department of Journalism. As a student, Joanne was the editor of the Periscope and a member of The Spectator staff. Letters of gratitude addressed to Ms. Joanne Friedrick should be submitted to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-2145173 . The recipient is expected to attend the Journalism convocation event.
