ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Excellent moral character; a thorough review of records is essential. Current freshman, sophomore or junior level student interested in pursuing a career in the environmental or natural resource management fields may apply. The recipient should exhibit similar characteristics to those of Mr. Fisher, in that he or she has a love of the outdoors and promotes its use for managed hunting, fishing, hiking, and logging. Basically, Jim Fisher was a man who respected the outdoors and gave back more than he took.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application materials can be found online at the Department of Biology Scholarship website at www.uwec.edu/biology.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Second Monday in March
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Biology Scholarship Committee, which has faculty representation from the major subdisciplines of biology. Applications will be evaluated both in terms of their academic merit and their compatibility with award eligibility criteria.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
April 30
NOTIFICATION:
The recipient will receive a letter from the Department of Biology. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.

Jim Fisher was the outdoors columnist for the LEADER TELEGRAM newspaper. A thank you should be sent to Mrs. Verda Fisher and to Mr. Charles Graaskamp, publisher of the LEADER TELEGRAM.
