Fay, Marcus J. & Ila R. Biology Fund


AMOUNT: $1,500
AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The student must be a Biology major with junior or senior standing at UW-Eau Claire at the time the funds would be utilized. The student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 in biology courses.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Biology Scholarship Committee, which has faculty representation from the major subdisciplines of biology. Applications will be evaluated both in terms of their academic merit and their compatibility with award eligibility criteria.
SELECTION PROCEDURES:
Within a list of eligible, qualified applicants, the following criteria are to be applied in prioritizing students by program and by career goal: 1)a student with definite plans to pursue, or continue, graduate study in plant taxonomy; 2)a student with definite plans to pursue graduate study in a botanical specialty other than plant taxonomy; this may also include applied fields such as plant breeding agronomy, or plant pathology; 3)a student with a definite plan to utilize the funds for faculty- supervised research involving the collection of biological data in the natural environment during the summer months (could be tuition, travel, or supplies). This could also include a student taking coursework at a field station or attending national or international scientific meetings; 4)a student who demonstrates a genuine desire for a career in teaching at any level—elementary, secondary, or college/university; and 5)a student who may not fit into any of the first four priorities, but whose performance thus far indicates a future career, which will be a definite credit to the Department of Biology.
SELECTION DEADLINE: April 30
NOTIFICATION:
If you are nominated to receive this scholarship, the Department of Biology will send official notification of your nomination to you. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
