Blumenthal, Albert & Marie Sociology


AMOUNT: $500.00
AVAILABLE: ANNUALLY
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Applicants must: be a full-time Sociology major; have a resident and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application; have completed at least 60 credits by the beginning of the semester in which the award is made; and may not be a previous recipient of the award. There are three Blumenthal Awards for personal achievement: Blumenthal Award for Outstanding Student Academic Apprentice – Nomination by faculty who supervised a Student Academic Apprentice in a sociology course. Up to two awards of $100 each, contingent on presentation at the Annual Sociology Awards. Blumenthal Award for the Sociological Imagination – Faculty nomination of a sociology major who lives up to C. Wright Mill’s approach to sociology. Up to two awards of $100 each, contingent on presentation at the Annual Sociology Awards. Blumenthal Award of Post-BA Plans – Faculty nomination of a sociology major whose post-BA plans maximize the skills and knowledge learned at UW-Eau Claire. Up to two awards of $100 each, contingent on presentation at the Annual Sociology Awards.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
A letter of application outlining educational and career goals and primary areas of sociological interest should be submitted to the Chair of the Department of Sociology, along with a current transcript of all work completed. The student should also ask a department faculty member to provide a letter of support for the application.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 1
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A scholarship committee consisting of the Chair and two faculty chosen by the department shall make the selection decision.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
May 15 prior to the academic year in which the award is given.
NOTIFICATION:
The recipient will receive official notification prior to June 1, from the Chair of the Department of Sociology. The department will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
