AMOUNT: $100.00 AVAILABLE: Available ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Applicants must be a continuing outstanding Communication and Journalism student majoring in either Communication (emphasis in Organizational Communication, Communication Studies, or Public Communication) or Mass Communication (emphasis in Public Relations). Applicants must have a minimum major GPA of at least 3.2. Applicants must provide proof of active involvement in a UW-Eau Claire communication or mass communication (public relations) related student organization (e.g., CHO, IABS, PRSSA, SHRM, SRI, TV-10, WUEC-FM, etc.) and/or employment and/or an internship in a communication and/or mass communication (public relations) related field (e.g., WEAU-TV, WQOW-TV, Post house, WPR, Mayo Clinic Eau Claire, United Way, etc.) at the time of application. Applicants must have demonstrated excellence in oral, written and/or visual communication skills.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: The applicant is required to write a letter of application, in essay form, in which all of the following points are clearly addressed in no more than two, typed double-spaced pages. The content of the letter should be organized by number according to the areas listed: 1) Describe your active current involvement in a UW-Eau Claire communication or mass communication (public relations) related student organization (e.g., CJO, IABC, PRSSA, SHRM, SRI, TV-10, WUEC-FM, etc.) and/or employment and/or an internship in a communication and/or mass communication (public relations) related field (e.g., WEAU-TV, WQOW-TV, Post House, WPR, Mayo Clinic Eau Claire, United Way, etc.). Provide the review committee with some proof of your involvement in any of the above. Provide evidence to demonstrate excellence in your oral, written and/or visual communication skills. Letters of application that exceed two, double-spaced pages will not be considered, and incomplete applications will not be considered. The applicant also is required to provide the following information and attach it as a separate typed cover page: Name, student ID number, email address, local address, permanent address, telephone, major, major GPA, completed credits in major, minor, total GPA, credits in progress, completed credits and expected date of graduation. Applicant must also submit a degree audit.APPLICATION DATE: First Friday in AprilSELECTION PROCEDURE: The Department of Communication and Journalism Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.SELECTION DEADLINE: Early to mid-AprilNOTIFICATION: The Chair of the Department of Communication and Journalism will send notification to the recipient and complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office. The winner of this award is expected to attend the Department of Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception held the last day of spring classes.SPECIAL NOTES: A letter of gratitude addressed to the Excellence in Communication Scholarship Committee should be submitted directly to the Department of Communication and Journalism Department program assistant. |
