ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Department of Communication and Journalism student who will be enrolled full-time for at least one semester during the next academic year. Student must be a declared Communication or Mass Communication major with an emphasis in Organizational Communication, Public Communication or Public Relations. Student must have 12 credits of CJ courses completed at the time of application. Earned GPA of at least 3.2 in the CJ Department at the time of application. Student must show proof of active involvement in a UW-Eau Claire communication or mass communication related student organization (e.g., CJO, IABC, PRSSA, SHRM, SOPC, SRI, TV-10, WUEC-FM, etc.) and/or employment and/or an internship in a communication and/or mass communication related field (e.g., WEAU-TV, WQOW-TV, Post House, WPR, Luther-Midelfort, United Way, etc.) at the time of application. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and/or visual communication skills.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms are available in the Department of CJ office. Attach a typed personal statement describing at least two oral and/or visual presentations and/or written assignments you have completed at UWEC that you think demonstrate examples of excellence in communication, either as part of a class or organization at UWEC.
APPLICATION DATE: early to mid April
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A committee of Communication and Journalism faculty members will select the recipient.
SELECTION DEADLINE: early to mid April
NOTIFICATION:
The Chair of the Department will send the recipient a letter of notification and complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
A letter of gratitude addressed to the Excellence in Communication Scholarship Committee should be submitted directly to the Department of Communication and Journalism Department program assistant. The winner of this award is expected to attend the Department of Communication and Journalism Student Excellence Recognition Reception held the last day of spring classes.
