AVAILABLE:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving UW-Eau Claire student with financial need who is planning to participate in one of three global learning experiences: a service learning project in a disadvantaged area of the United States or the world; an activity to immerse a student in a different culture in the United States over Spring Break, in the summer or during Winterim; or an international study experience over a semester. Students must have been accepted into one of these three programs or in the National Student Exchange to be considered. The intent of this scholarship is to provide an opportunity to U.S. multicultural/ESL students. Applicant must be an undergraduate student encouraged by this scholarship to participate in an experience they may not have considered otherwise. Priority would be given to a student who has completed the Commanding English Program and has financial need. If no student from CEP has been accepted, then a student with financial need from the Student Support Service Program would be considered. If no student from either of these programs has been accepted, then the scholarship could be awarded to another student with financial need. If several qualified students apply, then a committee of one representative from the various programs such as Center for International Education, Student Immersion Experiences, National Student Exchange, Service Learning, and Commanding English Program would make the selection.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Applicant must submit a letter of application to the Student Support Services Office. The letter must address the following: describe the learning experience that applicant will be involved in as pertaining to this award; address the financial need requirement and how this scholarship award would benefit the applicant’s financial situation; and explain the benefits that would be gained from a global learning experience. The letter should be no more than 200-300 words in length. Students who are former participants in the Commanding English Program (CEP) are especially encouraged to apply.
