Foundation Scholarships

Weller, Brett Memorial

The scholarship shall be awarded to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire student from Hudson, WI, (a graduate of Hudson High School) accepted into the UW-Eau Claire Study Abroad program. Financial need should be a consideration but not the highest priority. If there are no students from Hudson applying for study abroad, applicants from Western Wisconsin will be given preference and then any student from Wisconsin.

August 15 for spring programs, if no fall award was made. April 15 for fall/academic year programs.

The UW-Eau Claire Study Abroad Grant Committee reviews applications and recommends the recipient to the Director of the Center for International Education.

Notification will be sent by CIE to the recipient by email. The CIE Director will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.

Mary Weller, from Hudson, established this scholarship in memory of her husband, Brett, who was killed in a plane crash on January 30, 2009, in Dunn County. Brett, a Wausau area native, was a 1988 UW-Eau Claire graduate, and he made Hudson his home after college graduation. Brett’s life was enriched by his education and world travels. He encouraged his step-daughter, Maggie, to work hard in school so that she could have the opportunity to study abroad. The scholarship honors his commitment to education and his passion for travel, reflecting his personal philosophy of living life to the fullest. A thank you note addressed to Mary Weller and her daughter, Maggie, should be forwarded to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
