ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship has been created to support a sophomore or higher who has a declared major or minor in geography with special interest in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The student must show applied use of GIS in their academic work, and show great potential for success in a career in GIS. Academic success and potential in GIS should be the highest criteria for selection. Financial need should not be a consideration.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Students must complete and return the application from to the Geography and Anthropology Department Office by November 30.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A committee of geography faculty, preferably those with GIS expertise, shall review the applications and select the recipient. In addition to the letter of application, students applying for the scholarship also need to include a reference from a faculty member who can speak to the applicant’s interest in and potential for success in a career in GIS.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
The scholarship will be awarded by December 15.
NOTIFICATION:
The chair of the Geography and Anthropology Department will notify the recipient by letter. The chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient should send a letter of appreciation to Craig Wickman in care of the UWEC Foundation, 214 Schofield Hall. Craig Wickman is a 1994 UW-Eau Claire graduate with a BS degree in geography. His area of interest and expertise is in GIS and he currently is a GIS programmer with American Electric Power in Columbus, OH. He is a native of Eau Claire.
