Foundation Scholarships

Szews, Charles & Rochelle Graduate

All applicants must have completed, or be scheduled to complete, a bachelor's degree or equivalent in communication disorders by August of the current year. Applicants must be applying for full standing in the graduate degree program in CSD at UW-Eau Claire concurrently with application for this scholarship. Students accepted with conditional status are not eligible for this scholarship. Only applicants who have a completed graduate school application on or before February 15 will be eligible for this scholarship award. This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding graduate student in communication sciences and disorders. Preference will be given to a graduate student interested in clinical applications in a designated area focusing on cleft palate/maxilla facial imbalance. The second choice will be communication pragmatic difficulties or the use of language, which might include autism.

Only applicants who complete the scholarship application form and have at least two letters of recommendation for the scholarship submitted by February 1st will be eligible for the award. Application/nomination forms are available in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Awarding of the scholarship will be determined based upon a combination of past accomplishments and strong undergraduate academic records. A committee of past CSD master's degree graduates from UW-Eau Claire will indepen- dently rank applications for this scholarship. In the event of a tie, committee members will be asked to rank the tied applications. The Scholarship Committee will submit its rankings to the Chair of the Department of CSD.

The award winner will be notified in writing when admission letters are sent to the students who are accepted for the graduate degree program. The award will be offered to the highest-ranked applicant who accepts admission.

Charles and Rochelle Szews are both 1978 graduates of UW- Eau Claire. Charles graduated with a degree in accounting. He is the President/CEO of Oshkosh Truck Corporation. Rochelle Szews graduated with an undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders and holds a graduate degree in CSD from Western Michigan University.
