Physics Beyond the Classroom Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship shall be awarded annually to an outstanding physics major recognized for his/her efforts to promote a positive social atmosphere in the department. Preference is given to students that have completed or have been accepted for a study abroad experience. Selection will be based on quality of the academic program and progress towards a degree, and the potential for future contributions through a scientific or professional career.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms may be obtained in the office of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
March 15th. If March 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the application deadline is the last Friday preceding March 15th.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
Prior to Honors Week.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Department of Physics and Astronomy scholarship committee will select the recipient.
NOTIFICATION:
The recipient will be notified by letter from the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Need Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Thank you notes addressed to Ben Sykora need to be sent to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214. This scholarship was established by Ben Sykora, a 2006 UW-Eau Claire physics graduate who used his employer’s corporate matching gift program to double the value of his personal gift. Ben was an active student researcher while on campus as a student and as a German major he also participated in a study abroad experience.
