Foundation Scholarships

Blugold Promise, Pilcher

The Pilcher Blugold Promise Scholarship shall be awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman student who has graduated from Unity High School in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, has been accepted for admission to UW-Eau Claire and demonstrates significant financial need as initially reported by the students and verified by the UW-Eau Claire Financial Aid Office. To be considered, students must rank in the top 25% of their graduating classes and have a minimum of a 25 composite on the Act (or comparable SAT), have a well- rounded high school record of academic achievement, leadership and involvement in extra-curricular activities. In general a student who has a zest for life and a desire to get the most out of his/her college education will receive primary consideration. Recipients who have a successful freshman year and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 by the end of their first year will receive a $1,000 scholarship their sophomore year, if they continue to demonstrate financial need.

A committee from Academic Affairs and Admissions will select and recommend the recipients to members of the University faculty/staff.

Screening of candidates will begin in December and continue through the spring. Final selections will be made no later than April 30 (or until recipients have accepted all the awards). Students who are admitted by November 30 have the highest potential of being selected for this special honor.

The Office of Admissions will notify scholarship recipients (and their high school counselors) once the award is accepted.

The Pilcher Blugold Promise was established by Ken Pilcher to honor the memories of his father C.B. “Jerry” Pilcher and his sister Kathy Pilcher. Both Kathy and Ken graduated from UW-Eau Claire.
