Northwestern Bank, headquartered in Chippewa Falls, established the Northwestern Bank Marching Band Scholarship in memory and honor of those who were involved in the tragic bus accident on October 16, 2005. The bus transporting the Chippewa Falls High School Marching Band, its directors and several UW-Eau Claire students collided with a semi-truck on I-94. Five people were killed, including the marching band director and UW- Eau Claire alum, his wife and his granddaughter, the bus driver and a UW-Eau Claire student. In addition, several people were injured, including UW-Eau Claire students and children of former or current Northwestern Bank employees. This scholarship honors the memory of those lost and the commitment of all those on the bus for the marching band. The Northwestern Bank Marching Band Scholarships seek to recognize those UW-Eau Claire students who not only are committed to the Blugold Marching Band but who are reaching out as volunteers and staff members to support and encourage area high school marching band programs to reach their greatest potential.
