Morris was an academic renaissance man, with undergraduate degrees in naval science and mathematics along with his graduate degrees in English. An inspiring teacher and skilled administrator at UW-Eau Claire for thirty-two years, he instilled in students his own love of learning along with his delight in language and literature. Firmly committed to the idea of service to his professions, he was influential in the early growth of the Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English and directly involved in the development of new programs at UW-Eau Claire in a wide range of disciplines, from Nursing and Environmental and Public Health to Studies Abroad, Computer Science, and Philosophy and Religious Studies. To support his commitment to liberal education, the John W. Morris Scholarship is being offered to an outstanding student in English—with a liberal arts emphasis. The recipient is encouraged to send a thank-you note to the son and daughter of John Morris, Greg Morris and Alison Morris, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, S-214. |
