AMOUNT: $300.00 AVAILABLE: Annually ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The William F. Mellien Scholarship will be awarded to a Theatre Major or Minor, with a preference to those who have displayed an interest in design or technical theatre.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application forms are available in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts office. Application should be accompanied by a letter that includes theatrical achievements, professional interests and goals, and current cumulative GPA.APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 15 SELECTION PROCEDURE: The recipient is selected by the Theatre Arts faculty and staff.SELECTION DEADLINE: May 1 NOTIFICATION: The Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts will notify the recipient in writing. The Chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.SPECIAL NOTES: Bill Mellien was a faculty member at UW-Eau Claire from 1983 to 2001. He was responsible for the scenic, lighting, and makeup designs as well as technical direction for all productions. Bill taught classes in those areas as well as CADD design and scenic painting. His design for “The Grapes of Wrath” won an award from the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. He also directed three productions for UWEC Theatre. Bill is responsible for inspiring a number of students to pursue careers in design and technical theatre both academically and professionally. Bill resides in Eau Claire with his wife Mollie and now utilizes his theatrical talents to provide passion and creativity at his church.
