Foundation Scholarships

Owen, Dr. Oliver S.

This scholarship, chosen by the biology faculty, will be awarded to a deserving biology student who has a demonstrated interest in and passion for wildlife biology (particularly ornithology) or limnology. To apply, students must have completed the biology core courses and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.2 in biology courses.

Application materials can be found online at the Department of Biology Scholarship website at www.uwec.edu/biology. The applicant also must have a letter of support from a UW- Eau Claire biology faculty member who has worked with the applicant and can speak to the applicant’s specific qualities.

Second Monday in March

Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Biology Scholarship Committee, which has faculty representation from the major sub disciplines of biology. Applications will be evaluated both in terms of their academic merit and their compatibility with award eligibility criteria.

April 30th

The Chair of the Department of Biology will send an award letter to the recipient, with a copy sent to Dr. Thomas and Karen Lansing. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.

This scholarship was established in 2007 by Dr. Thomas and Karen Lansing, from Dellwood, MN. Dr. Lansing is a 1978 general science graduate, retired dentist and successful entrepreneur. Dr. Owen was a beloved teacher and mentor who left a lasting impression on Dr. Lansing. This scholarship honors Dr. Owen’s memory and is a reflection of Dr. Owen’s area of expertise and the impact he had on so many of his students. Dr. Owen taught at UW-Eau Claire from 1967 to 1990 and died in 1995. Recipients must send a thank you letter to Dr. Thomas and Karen Lansing, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, S-214.
