Miller Prize for Outstanding History Paper

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Miller Prize will be awarded each semester for the outstanding senior thesis by a student in the Department of History. Typically the paper will have been produced in the department Senior Seminar (History 489). The judges will be the professors who have taught each section of the class in that semester and the department chair. If there are fewer than two sections of the class, the chair will identify an additional member of the department faculty to serve as judge. The paper will be a traditional research paper by a single student author of no fewer than 30 pages of text, using standard scholarly apparatus, and based on primary sources. The award will be $200.00 to the student author of the paper.

SPECIAL NOTES:
Dr. Thomas Miller created the Miller Prize to give recognition to the student in the senior thesis class (History 489) who has the best paper each semester. Dr. Miller, who joined the History Department at UW-Eau Claire in 1967, served the university for 40 years before retiring in 2007. In addition to teaching, Dr. Miller served as associate vice chancellor and interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. As a professor, Dr. Miller often taught the 489 class.
