The Jay Mettler Pre-Veterinary Medicine Scholarship was established by his family with the memorial gifts received after Jay’s death on February 19, 2006, following a tragic snowmobile accident. A life-long animal lover, Jay graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in veterinary medicine. He owned the Westgate Animal Hospital in Eau Claire where he provided compassionate care for domestic and wild animals. Jay also was an outdoor enthusiast, spending time hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping and skiing. His love for caring for animals started when he was very young. Even in high school he worked countless hours at Oakwood Hills Animal Hospital.
