ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The purpose of this scholarship is to support and encourage deserving students interested in experimental biology to further their inquiries and original studies. The applicant must be a junior or senior in her/his academic standing defined by the University. The GPA, during the most recent two academic years, must be 3.0 or better. In addition, an essay accompanying the application must state a life process or phenomenon which has been a special interest to the applicant. The essay must include the reason or reasons why the specific process/phenomenon is interesting to the applicant. It may also include a historical perspective of the process/phenomenon, its biological significance, and the experimental approaches that it may be studied further. The essay must be no more than two single- spaced pages, using the size 12 of Times font. The margin of the standard stationary paper should be one inch for top, 0.75 inch for bottom and left side and 0.5 inch for right side. A refined style of writing in a concise manner and clearly defined biological problem of interest will be the primary criteria for selection of deserving students for this scholarship.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Biology Scholarship Committee, which has faculty representation from the major subdisciplines of biology. Applications will be evaluated both in terms of their academic merit and their compatibility with award eligibility criteria.
SELECTION DEADLINE: April 15
NOTIFICATION:
The Department Chair will send the recipient an award letter. The Chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
