Larson, Vicki Lord & James Roy Research Award

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Student in the second year of her/his graduate program in Communication Sciences and Disorders completing a research- based thesis. This award is intended to encourage quality research among Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate students.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Contact the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department for an application. A letter of support from the faculty advisor must accompany application.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
October 1 of the academic year of the award.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The award will be based on the applied research for the master’s thesis. The research must make a contribution to the knowledge base of the discipline. Research must be IRB approved. Financial need is not a requirement, but may be considered by the selection committee. The donor’s intent is that the award not be given should applicants not meet the criteria.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
Mid-November (The award will be applied to the recipient’s business account at the beginning of spring semester.)
NOTIFICATION:
The department is asked to notify the recipient in writing, with a copy of the letter sent to the research award sponsor. The department must complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Vicki Lord Larson, PhD, CCC-SLP, is Chancellor Emerita, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She received her bachelor’s, masters, and doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She met her husband Jim while they were both students at UW-Madison. Jim was her source of support and encouragement throughout her career. Jim passed away in 2004. They both were strong supporters of higher education and the advancement of research in a chosen discipline. The recipient should write a thank-you letter to Vicki Lord Larson, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, Schofield 214.
