Foundation Scholarships

Korn, Willard and Carol

One scholarship will be awarded annually. The award will be alternated each year between the Department of Information Systems and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UW-Eau Claire. On odd number years, an outstanding student majoring in information systems will be selected in the spring and receive the scholarship the fall of that same year; on even number years, an outstanding nursing major will be selected in the spring and receive the scholarship the fall of that same year. The specific criterion for selection by each follows: Information System Scholarship Selection Criteria and Process: The recipient must be a full-time IS major when applying and receiving who has been admitted to the College of Business; have a cumulative and major GPA of at least 3.0; have completed at least 90 credits by the end of the receiving semester; and return as a full-time IS major the following semester. Other considerations include past academic record, work experience, extracurricular activities, etc., and future plans. Recipient must show a financial need. Nursing Scholarship Selection Criteria and Process: Recipient must be enrolled in one of the nursing programs offered through the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Recipient must show financial need. This award is available to a student with at least a 3.0 GPA who would most benefit from the scholarship award and who has a letter of acceptance and is enrolled in a nursing program. Demonstrated promise as a nursing professional will be a primary factor in selecting the recipient.

Information Systems: Submit letter of application, a current unofficial UWEC transcript, and a biographical essay (500-1500 words) discussing honors received, work experience, and extracurricular activities; in each section emphasize your leadership and character. Email application materials to the IS Scholarship Committee chair (ISscholarships@uwec.edu). Nursing: Application Forms: Students who are admitted to the nursing program at UW-Eau Claire will receive an email in late February/early March when the scholarship application is ready and available. The email will include the path to the online application forms. PART ONE is filled online and submitted electronically. PART TWO (the essay and activities form) is filled out online and printed off, signed and submitted to the Dean’s Assistant Office, Nursing 103, by the deadline. Only one essay can be submitted. The essay must address the eligibility criteria for each of the scholarships that they wish to apply for.

Information Systems: First Friday in March. Nursing: Second Monday in March

Information Systems: The IS Scholarship Committee will make the selection. Nursing: College of Nursing and Health Sciences Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.

Information Systems: Third Friday in March. Nursing: Selection will be made before the annual nursing scholarship dinner in late spring.

Information Systems: Official notification will be sent to recipients by the IS Scholarship Committee Chair who will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office. Nursing: The Dean will notify the recipient by letter and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.

This scholarship was established in 2007 by Willard (Bill) and Carol Korn. Bill taught at UW-Eau Claire for more than 30 years; Carol received her nursing degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1979. Both have been active in the community and the university over the years. Recipients are expected to send thank you notes to Willard and Carol Korn in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, S-214.
