SPECIAL NOTES:
Dr. Robert Fraser joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1967 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Fraser had a BA and MA from the University of Rochester, New York, and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. His specialty was British History. Dr. Fraser became Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in 1975 and twice served as Acting Dean. He was president of the University Senate and received the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Service Award. He retired as a professor in 1995. Jane Coyne Fraser had a BS in Home Economics from Buffalo State Teachers College. Jane died in 2010. Together Bob and Jane Fraser traveled to Scotland on nine different occasions. The first time was when, as a graduate student, Bob spent 1958-59 studying at the University of Glasgow under renowned Scottish historian George S. Pryde, among others. Bob and Jane’s first child, daughter Anne, was born in Glasgow midway through that year abroad. Dr. Fraser is of Scottish heritage and has spent innumerable hours researching his family history, tracing the Walkers, who emigrated from Perthshire to Colonial America in 1775, and the Frasers, who departed from Inverness-shire for the United States in 1807. Dr. Fraser treasures the nine trips he has made to Scotland, all with Jane, and many with his children and grandchildren, which allowed them to locate the Highland farms and burial places of their ancestors, to visit with and form friendships with Scots, and to experience many of the wonders of Scottish culture. Having relished their study and time in Scotland along with their Scottish heritage, the Frasers want to help UW-Eau Claire students have the chance to study, travel, and enjoy the history and culture of Scotland. Recipient should write a letter of thanks to Robert Fraser and forward it to the UW- Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
