AMOUNT: $500.00 for an incoming freshman from Holcombe High School and $500.00 for an incoming freshman from Flambeau High School. $1,000 total.AVAILABLE: AvailableELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: This scholarship is available to incoming freshmen students who are accepted for admission to UW-Eau Claire, one for a graduate of Holcombe High School and one for a graduate of Flambeau High School. Applicants must have financial need. The recipients will be selected by the scholarship committees of each high school based on academic achievement and greatest need.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application forms are available in the Guidance Office of each high school. Applications should be typed and returned to the same office.APPLICATION DEADLINE: Determined by each high schools’ Guidance Office.SELECTION PROCEDURE: Each high school will select the recipient based on the criteria information above.SELECTION DEADLINE: Prior to June 1 NOTIFICATION: The high school Guidance Offices will send the recipient a notification letter. The UW-Eau Claire Foundation and Financial Aid offices should each receive a copy of the award letter prior to July 1.SPECIAL NOTES: This scholarship fund was established by seven children of Michael and Vera Jansen, four of whom attended UW-Eau Claire, in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary. Michael Jansen, after joining the U.S. Navy when he was 17 and serving in the Philippines during World War II, graduated from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN, with a degree in industrial arts education. After again serving stateside in the Navy during the Korean conflict, he taught industrial arts and driver’s education at Holcombe High School and Flambeau High School. Vera Jansen attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, majoring in nutrition. She was a homemaker, managed the family farm and worked and volunteered at Willard Elementary School in Holcombe. This scholarship was established to honor Michael and Vera Jansen’s efforts for helping their children obtain a college education. Recipients are asked to write a thank you letter and deliver it to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214. |
