AMOUNT: $4,000 AVAILABLE: Annually ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The Sacia Anne Jerome String Scholarship is intended to be awarded to one UW-Eau Claire music major (B.M., B.M.E., B.A. or B.S degrees) over a two-year period ($4,000 each of the two years.) The recipient will be selected from the full-time students among the sophomore class of UW-Eau Claire students who have indicated a desire to major in music with an emphasis on strings. The recipient must perform in at least one of the instrumental music ensembles at UW-Eau Claire for 7 semesters, cannot also be a beneficiary of another scholarship created by the Mary Ella Jerome Family Foundation, Inc., or the Marion E. Jerome Foundation, Inc., and must be a U.S. citizen. The recipient does not have to demonstrate financial need. Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by a music faculty member. The first scholarship will be awarded for the 2007-08 academic year. Each subsequent year, a new recipient may be selected, so that there could be up to two recipients of the scholarship at any given time. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient continues to major in the instrumental music program at UW-Eau Claire, with an emphasis on strings, and continues to maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0. If the scholarship is discontinued as a result of not meeting the cumulative GPA requirement, the individual can become eligible for the remaining year of the scholarship if his/her cumulative GPA meets the 3.0 standard.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: The applicant should submit to the String Division Coordinator a letter explaining leadership positions and activities in high school, college, and in the community and how this involvement led the applicant to seek a major in music at UW-Eau Claire.APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 1 SELECTION PROCEDURE: The selection committee will choose a recipient who best demonstrates a commitment to music as a career, a passion for performing, a good work ethic, and excellent people skills. The recipient should be an individual who has demonstrated the potential to emerge as a leader in the program. The selection committee shall be composed of the String Division Coordinator; all full and part-time string faculty and at least one faculty member who has taught most of the freshman and/or sophomore music majors.NOTIFICATION: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts chairman will notify the recipient of their selection for the award before the end of the spring semester. The department chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office. The Selection Committee will be responsible for providing the donor, or her designated representative, with the name and background information about the scholarship recipient.SPECIAL NOTES: Immediately upon receiving notification of the award, the scholarship recipient will send a thank-you letter to the Mary Ella Jerome Family Foundation, Inc., in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, Schofield 214. The recipient should provide an update on his/her activities over the year and discuss how the scholarship will help the recipient in furthering his/her musical skills. |
