Foundation Scholarships

Hochstein, Gloria English Student Opportunity Fund

AMOUNT: One at $400.00
AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship is meant to recognize and encourage English majors and minors who show great promise. To be eligible for the Gloria Hochstein English opportunity Fund, the applicant must be an active member of the Theta Zeta chapter of Sigma Tau Delta. Applicants are encouraged but not required to apply for membership in the international Sigma Tau Delta organization. This scholarship provides students majoring or minoring in English an incentive to take advantage of value-added educational experiences, and also helps those with limited financial resources who may not be able to participate in extra-curricular activities under normal circumstances. In particular, the scholarship encourages students in developing their leadership in English-related activities in addition to their classroom experiences. Some examples of qualifying activities include, but are not limited to, the following: to provide leadership for Sigma Tau Delta activities or the English Festival, to develop outreach programs to inspire young students to hone their writing and reading skills, to engage in undergraduate research experiences that will enhance their classroom experiences, to support research and writing leading to publication, and to help students attend professional conferences to present papers and creative works.
