ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship is available to one incoming freshman each year who is a Jackson County resident and graduate of Black River Falls High School. It will provide financial assistance to a full-time student who, through their pre- college academic success and extracurricular activities, has demonstrated outstanding scholarship and leadership to school and community. Applicant will be accepted from students in the Black River Falls school District. Preference will be given to Black River Falls School District applicants although student residing in other districts in Jackson County will be considered after special nomination by the scholarship committee. Financial need is a consideration, as determined by the counselors who select the recipient. The scholarship will be awarded for one year upon enrollment at UW-Eau Claire. This scholarship is a one-year scholarship to be awarded for the freshman year only.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms and scholarship announcements (available from the counseling/advising office at Black River Falls High School) will be forwarded to Jackson County high schools by October 1 of the preceding year.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
Applications must be returned to the counseling/advising office at Black River Falls High School by March 1st.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee selected by the high school.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
April 1 or before the Black River Falls High School awards day.
NOTIFICATION:
The counseling/advising office at Black River Falls High School will send a notification letter to the recipient, with a copy also sent to the Financial Aid and Foundation offices before June 15th.
SPECIAL NOTES:
This scholarship was established by Carl and Rhonda Holmquist in 2009. Carl and Rhonda both have undergraduate and graduate degrees from UW-Eau Claire. After graduation, they moved to Black River Falls in 1977 and have spent their entire careers working in the Black River Falls community. This scholarship is evidence of their shared value of higher education. Recipients should write a letter of thanks to Carl and Rhonda Holmquist and forward it to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, Schofield 214.
