AMOUNT: One award $500 AVAILABLE: Available ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: This fund will be used to provide scholarships or study grants to majors and minors in the UW-Eau Claire Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies to help them achieve a goal to travel abroad. Recipients need not be participating in the university’s formal study abroad program. Rather, these funds may be awarded to students who submit proposals for travel and study. Priority for selection shall include the fervent desire to travel and use those experiences to further academic pursuits or professional plans and academic excellence as current UW- Eau Claire students majoring or minoring in philosophy and religious studies. The intent of this award is for the recipient to plan his/her trip abroad with the determination and desire to absorb and gain the fullest benefit possible from that particular international experience. Recipients must be currently enrolled UW-Eau Claire students when they are notified of the award. If they graduate, they may be allowed up to six months following graduation to submit to the Foundation their request for funds.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: To apply for this award, student must submit an application of no more than two, double-spaced pages. The application should include a description of 1) how the Jannusch Global Awareness Award shall be used to support their international travel; 2) how the award will enhance further academic studies and/or career plans; 3) specific financial need; and 4) extracurricular activities, previous awards, recognitions, scholarships, etc. The student should submit the application to the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies Office. An incomplete application will not be considered.APPLICATION DEADLINE: First Monday in AprilSELECTION DEADLINE: No later than the first Monday in MayNOTIFICATION: The Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies will send a notification letter to the recipient. The recipient is expected to attend a spring semester event (reception or dinner to be determined by the department) at which time an award certificate will be presented to the student by Dr. Marlene R. Jannusch (if available). The program will be outlined in the award letter.SPECIAL NOTES: The recipient is expected to send a thank you letter that includes information about their international travel plans to Dr. Marlene Jannusch in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214. The Bruce and Marlene Jannusch Global Awareness Fund was established in memory of Dr. Bruce Jannusch, professor emeritus of philosophy and religious studies at UW-Eau Claire, who died February 11, 2010. Bruce retired from UW-Eau Claire in 1997 after 29 years of teaching in the department and serving as department chair for six years. Marlene was a faculty member at Mount Scenario College, Ladysmith, WI, for 28 years and chaired the Department of Teacher Education for eight years. She also sat on the MSC Board of Trustees. Marlene’s original commentaries aired on Wisconsin Public Radio for 10 years. She has published two books and authored numerous professional articles and social commentaries. |
