AMOUNT: One at $500.00 for fall semester. Spring semester $500 award is PENDING.AVAILABLE: AnnuallyELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: One $500 scholarship shall be awarded each semester to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire social work major. The recipient must be a junior or senior with a minimum of one semester at UW-Eau Claire remaining. Recipients must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or better, be held in high regard by faculty and peers and have not received a Samantha DeLong Memorial Scholarship previously.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Application forms are available from the Department of Social Work.APPLICATION DEADLINE: The first Friday in March for the fall scholarship award and the first Friday of November for the spring scholarship award.SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be made by the Social Work Department’s Scholarship Committee.SELECTION DEADLINE: The Friday in April for the fall scholarship award and the first Friday in December for the spring scholarship award.NOTIFICATION: Notification will be made by the Social Work Department. The Chair will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office. The scholarship will be applied to the recipient’s tuition account with the UW-Eau Claire business office at the start of the semester for which the award has been designated.SPECIAL NOTES: This scholarship fund was established by Joe and Susan DeLong in memory of their daughter, Samantha, who graduated in 2010 from UW-Eau Claire with a B.S. degree in social work. She died on June 22, 2010, in Eau Claire. Samantha was a 2006 graduate of Green Bay Southwest High School. At the time of her death, she was working for Lutheran Social Services in Eau Claire. Samantha was known for her musical talents, her love of animals, and her compassion toward others. The recipient should write a thank you letter addressed to Joe and Susan DeLong and forward to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214. |
