AMOUNT: One award at $450.00 AVAILABLE: Available ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: This scholarship is available to an outstanding junior or senior pursuing a major or minor in economics with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The successful applicant will demonstrate an understanding of the value of a liberal education and be an inspiration to others. The scholarship is not renewable for a second year.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Complete an application form available from the Economics Department and attach a typed, one-page essay addressing the value of a liberal education and how the student will benefit or inspire others.APPLICATION DEADLINE: The last Monday in MarchSELECTION PROCEDURE: The Department of Economics Scholarship Committee will select the award recipient.SELECTION DEADLINE: Two weeks after the application deadline.NOTIFICATION: The Chair of the Scholarship Committee will send an award letter to the scholarship recipient and a completed “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.SPECIAL NOTES: This scholarship was created in memory of Josef Gapko who died at age 22 due to Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Josef was an outstanding senior in economics, an accomplished vocal performer with a passion for singing, and an inspiration to those who knew him. His philosophy was “to do the best one can in any endeavor and be ready to help others reach their potential when opportunities arise. We all have strengths and weaknesses: life is about sharing them for the benefit of all.” His family desires to help another young economics student with a passion for learning and helping others. The recipient should send a thank you letter to the Gapko family in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214. |
