AMOUNT: $2,000 AVAILABLE: Initially one awarded to an incoming freshman. Renewable for sophomore year with good academic standing at the conclusion of the freshman year.ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Initially one scholarship of at least $1,000 shall be awarded annually to an outstanding graduate of Beaver Dam High School who is planning on attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. If there are two students of equal merit, financial need will be the determining factor. The UW-Eau Claire admissions office shall select the recipient. The successful applicant shall demonstrate solid academic achievement as well as a wide range of interests, characteristics and behaviors that, in all probability, will lead to a successful collegiate career at UW-Eau Claire. The admissions staff shall consult with the financial aid office to determine financial need of the applicants. Whenever possible, a representative of the Jerry and Sharon Ehrmeyer family shall attend an awards activity at Beaver Dam High School to present the recipient with a scholarship certificate.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: APPLICATION DEADLINE: SELECTION PROCEDURE: SELECTION DEADLINE: The UW-Eau Claire admissions office shall select a recipient and notify the recipient and school toward the end of the spring semester before the recipient graduates.NOTIFICATION: The UW-Eau Claire admissions office shall notify the recipient and high school.SPECIAL NOTES: Recipients should address letters of appreciation to Dr. Sharon Ehrmeyer and send them to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. About the Donors: Jerry Ehrmeyer graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1960 and 1962. He served as an assistant professor of psychology at UW-Eau Claire from 1971-78 and was an assistant director of the UW-Eau Claire Career Services Office from 1978 until his retirement in 1996. He died on December 15, 2005, from pancreatic cancer. Jerry’s life focused on his family and friends and his many diverse and changing interests. He had a voracious appetite for reading and an insatiable curiosity to learn about and explore new places, concepts and ideas. Jerry had the unique ability to touch a wide variety of people, from young to old, in a very special way. Jerry exemplified a Renaissance Man. He was known for his humor and for the guidance he provided for liberal arts undergraduate students. Dr. Sharon Ehrmeyer is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Director of the Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. The Ehrmeyers’ deep love of and respect for higher education will live on through their sponsorship of students from their hometown. Dr. Ehrmeyer honors Jerry’s memory by creating and funding this scholarship. The scholarships are endowed, meaning they are funded to exist in perpetuity at UW-Eau Claire. |
