AVAILABLE: Annually
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
This scholarship is available to a Philosophy or Religious Studies major or minor student who has been accepted into the study abroad program at UW-Eau Claire. Student must be a continuing sophomore, junior or senior in Philosophy or Religious Studies whose performance exemplifies excellence. Applicants must have a minimum resident GPA and major GPA of 3.0 and must have been accepted into a UW-Eau Claire Study Abroad Program.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
In no more than two, double-spaced pages, applicants should indicate: 1) extracurricular activities in the community or on campus; 2) previous awards, recognitions, scholarships; 3) what percentage of the student’s college expenses does he/she personally provide? 4) Description of employment which finances student’s education; 5) how will the deGrood Study Abroad Scholarship aid their studying abroad? 6) How will the scholarship enhance your learning experiences in Philosophy or Religious Studies major or minor? and 7) how will the student’s international experience benefit their career? The student should submit the application to the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies Office. An incomplete application will not be considered.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
The first Monday in April
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Philosophy and Religious Studies Department in consultation with the Center for International Education will select the recipient upon the criteria noted above.

No later than the first Monday in May
NOTIFICATION:
The Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies will send a notification letter to the recipient. The Chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office. The recipient is expected to attend a spring semester event (reception or dinner to be determined by the department) which will be outlined in the award letter.
SPECIAL NOTES:
The recipient should send a thank-you letter to the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
