Coffman, Marguerite Memorial Nursing

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The Marguerite Coffman Memorial Nursing Scholarship is to be awarded to one graduate or undergraduate student annually. The recipient is to have been officially admitted to the nursing program, show at least B+ achievement in previous college course work, and demonstrated motivation and commitment to the nursing profession. Students may apply for renewal of the scholarship on an annual basis, allowing for three years at the baccalaureate level plus one year at the graduate level.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application Forms - Students who are admitted to the nursing program at UW-Eau Claire will receive an email in February when the scholarship application is ready and available. The email will include the path to the online application forms – (http://www.uwec.edu/nurs/ on the bottom of the page under HOT LINKS). The forms are filled out and submitted on line, AND a hard copy must be printed off and submitted along with a written essay to the Dean’s Assistant Office, Nursing 277, by the deadline. Written essay - each application must include one written essay in not more than 200-300 words stating why you believe you should be awarded each of the scholarships for which you are applying. The essay must address the eligibility criteria for each of the scholarships that you are applying for. The criteria are listed on the scholarship website http://www.uwec.edu/finaid/aid/FDNscholarships.htm. Financial Need – For scholarships that indicate “financial need required” a FAFSA Financial Aid form must be filled out and there must be some level of financial need. Contact the Financial Aids office for the form at 715-836-3373. Please apply for financial aid by March 1.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Nursing Scholarship and Awards Committee will review applications using the above criteria and recommend a recipient to the Dean.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
Prior to the Nursing scholarship dinner
NOTIFICATION:
The Dean will send the recipient a letter and send a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid Office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Marguerite Coffman was the founding Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She joined the university faculty in 1964 and the first nursing class was admitted in the Fall of 1965. Ms. Coffman was a visionary leader who was deeply committed to professional nursing education. She was a strong voice for nursing that established the Nursing School as one of the university's marks of excellence. She continued to be a vocal advocate for the School as an independent entity that would serve as a leader in nursing education throughout the state and Midwest. Ms. Coffman retired from the University in 1977 and passed away in 2000.
