AMOUNT: Two at $2,000.00, $4,000.00 total AVAILABLE: Annually ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Two scholarships shall be awarded annually to outstanding students accepted into the UW-Eau Claire teacher education program. Financial need is a consideration. Preference shall be given to elementary education majors, but the donor desires that the scholarships shall be awarded to the most worthy students planning on becoming teachers.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Qualifying students will receive an email in December with scholarship application information. Also, visit the webpage www.uwec.edu/coehs/forms/index.htm and go to Teacher Education Scholarships. Complete the form and submit it to the Education Scholarship Committee. Ask at least one member of the Teacher Education Program who is familiar with your achievements at the University to submit a letter of recommendation to the Scholarship Committee.APPLICATION DEADLINE: Mid-February. Exact deadline will be in Scholarship Application Directions.SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be based on the above criteria.SELECTION DEADLINE: On or about April 1st.NOTIFICATION: By letter. The dean will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.SPECIAL NOTES: This scholarship was established in 2009 thanks to a gift from George Badman, who graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1941. His wife, Marie, graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in education in 1962. Before that she received a teacher’s training certificate. For 10 years, Marie Badman taught in one-room schools in the towns of Sigel, Goetz and Wheaton. She married in 1941 and left teaching to become a mother and housewife. After getting her degree from UW-Eau Claire, she taught first grade at the Barstow School in Eau Claire. Later she taught sixth grade in Baldwin and Hudson. She retired in 1977 after 31 years of teaching. George retired from a career with the US Navy in 1981. Marie died in 2006. George lives in Hudson, WI.
