Alexander, James International Study Abroad

AVAILABLE: Annually (spring semester)
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide an annual award (for spring semester) to enable UW-Eau Claire students with great interest and potential and limited financial resources to pursue study abroad opportunities. The ultimate goal of the program is to motivate UW-Eau Claire students to expand their horizons through the study abroad program. Students who have been accepted for study abroad through UW-Eau Claire Center for International Education may apply. The staff of the Financial Aid office will provide information on financial need which will be a major requirement. Students must have a GPA of at least 3.0.

August 15
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The UW-Eau Claire Study Abroad Grant Committee reviews applications and recommends the recipient to the Director of the Center for International Education.
SELECTION DEADLINE:
Mid-September
NOTIFICATION:
Notification will be sent by CIE to the recipient by email. The CIE Director will complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office.
SPECIAL NOTES:
Before joining the Geography faculty in 1966, James Alexander had a Fulbright Lectureship in Sweden. Jim was the study abroad advisor at UW-Eau Claire for twelve years from 1974 to 1986. Jim was instrumental in the early establishment of the study abroad program by founding two sites in Japan, one in Winchester, England, and another at Harlaxton in Grantham, England. Jim led student groups to Denmark, Mexico, and Central America. Jim took a personal interest in students who studied abroad and was excited when they shared their experiences with him. The recipient should write a thank you note and send it to Karen Alexander, in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Office, S-214.
