AMOUNT: $1,000 The recipient is eligible for an additional $200 upon passing one Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) exam.AVAILABLE: Annually ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The recipient must be a junior or first-semester senior human resources management major who is admitted to the College of Business. Must be an active member of the student chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management. Must show potential for leadership within the field of human resources management. Must have a minimum grade point average of at least 2.75.APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Please submit the following information to the Thomas Bergmann Scholarship Committee, SSS 400D: a letter of application, a current resume, campus copy of transcript and a one-page essay highlighting examples of leadership, and future plans in the field of human resources management. An incomplete application packet will disqualify a student.APPLICATION DEADLINE: The first Friday in AprilSELECTION PROCEDURE: The Thomas Bergmann Scholarship Committee consists of the chair of the Department of Management and Marketing, the faculty adviser for the Society for Human Resources Management and one other management faculty member to be selected by the department chair. The Thomas Bergmann Scholarship Committee will review applications and will forward the names of the top two finalists to Mrs. Marilyn Bergmann, for final consideration.SELECTION DEADLINE: Before the end of Spring Semester NOTIFICATION: The department chair will send a letter to the recipient. The department chair will also complete and submit a “Scholarship Award Form” to the Financial Aid office for each recipient.SPECIAL NOTES: The Thomas J. Bergmann Memorial Scholarship was established in 2003 by the family of Dr. Thomas J. Bergmann, UW-Eau Claire assistant dean for student affairs and director of research. In addition to serving the college as assistant dean, Dr. Bergmann was a professor in the department of Management and Marketing where he taught undergraduate, graduate and continuing education courses in human resource management, compensation theory and administration, mentoring, teamwork, training and development, and leadership. He served as faculty adviser for the student chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management. Dr. Bergmann was the recipient of the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Scholarship Award in 1991 and the Faculty/Academic Staff Member Excellence in Service-Learning Award in 2003 in recognition of his mentoring dozens of service-learning students. Dr. Bergmann joined the faculty of the UW-Eau Claire College of Business in 1975. Scholarship recipients should direct a letter of appreciation to Mrs. Marilyn Bergmann in care of the Chair of the Department of Management and Marketing. |
