Foundation Scholarships

Atherton Family Scholarship

Three categories for consideration. Check each one for renewal process. Priority for the annual scholarship shall go to any descendants of Thusnelda and Walter Richards and Beverly and William Atherton who have been accepted at UW-Eau Claire. There is not financial need or academic major requirement. The Richards/Atherton descendants would be responsible for identifying themselves in writing to the UW-Eau Claire Dean of Students Office with the request they be considered for the scholarship. Individuals accepted to UW-Eau Claire who have been recommended by the Athertons also should receive consideration. The scholarship may be renewed for three years provided the recipient remains enrolled at UW-Eau Claire, maintains satisfactory academic progress and there are no other qualified recipients. Priority also shall be given to student accepted to UW-Eau Claire who specifically states in writing at the time of their acceptance that they would like to be considered for the Atherton Family Scholarship. The Dean of Students Office will coordinate the awarding. There is no financial need or academic major requirement. The scholarship may be renewed for three years provided the recipient remains enrolled at UW-Eau Claire, maintains satisfactory academic progress and there are no other qualified recipients. If there are no students who qualify under the receding two criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire student participating in the Blugold Marching Band. This recipient shall be selected by the director of the Blugold Marching Band. The main criteria for selecting a Blugold Marching Band recipient is that the student be in at least their second year as a member of the Blugold Marching Band. And exhibit a passion for the band strong leadership qualities. The scholarship in this category is not intended to be renewed.

November 1st

Determined by the Dean of Students Office. Before any recipient is selected, the Foundation shall contact the Athertons to review the list of students who could receive the scholarship. The final selection of the recipient will be at the discretion of the university.

February 1st

The Dean of Students Office will notify the recipient and complete the “Scholarship Award Form” and submit it to the Financial Aid Office. The winner of this award is expected to be present at an appropriate reception or banquet to receive the award.

As a condition of accepting the Atherton Family Scholarship, recipients are expected to write an acknowledgement letter and send it in care of the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
