A summer session at the Morelos campus of the Monterrey
Institute of Technology and Higher Studies located in
Cuernavaca. Two three-credit courses in Latin American
civilization, history, literature, and art are offered for
students having completed at least two years of university
Spanish. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced intensive
Spanish language courses are also offered. A member of the
UW-Eau Claire Spanish faculty accompanies the group and
teaches the Latin American Studies courses. Housing is
provided with Mexican families. Prior knowledge of Spanish
is not required for enrollment in intensive language
courses.

The Center for German Language and Culture offers
instruction during the spring semester. Depending on the
courses already taken, students will be placed in
appropriate German courses. Independent study projects are
available with the approval of the accompanying UW-Eau
Claire faculty member. Students may also complete their
service-learning requirement. Some courses are taught by
instructors from Wittenberg. Housing is with families to
maximize the contact with the culture and language.

This program is of special interest to students in nursing,
allied health, and other majors with interest or
concentration in health care. Students take a one-credit
Medical Spanish course, along with a three-credit course
comparing the socialized health care system of Costa Rica
with the managed care system of the United States.

A study abroad program in Toulon is offered during the
spring semester. Courses are taught by instructors from
Campus International at the University of La Garde. Students
are placed in the appropriate level of French according to

A one-quarter program consisting of two required nursing
courses in the final semester: Nsys 455 and 475. Ints 170
may also be taken. All courses in the program are taught by
UW-Eau Claire nursing faculty members and guests, with
clinical experiences provided by local health care agencies.
The program provides an excellent opportunity to explore
nursing and health care in another culture.

A one-semester program at Harlaxton College near Grantham,
England, offered through arrangement with the University of
Evansville in their British Studies Center. Courses are
offered by UW-Eau Claire faculty and through cross-
registration with the British and U.S. faculty of Harlaxton
College. Ints 170 and 370, British Life and Civilization,
are required. Students and faculty are housed in Harlaxton
Manor. Low cost excursions are available.

The West Central Wisconsin Consortium (WCWC) operates a
cooperative campus in Scotland to provide a semester program
which permits a continuation of basic studies plus elective
courses which relate to the local environment and cultural
setting. Adjunct British faculty will supplement course
offerings of the WCWC instructors. Ints 170, British Life
and Civilization is a required course. All students live in
Dalkeith House, a building that dates from 1701, six miles
from Edinburgh.

offered in conjunction with the Universidad Nacional
Autonoma in Heredia, Costa Rica. A UW-Eau Claire faculty
member accompanies the students, who take a Latin American
Studies curriculum in English, along with a Spanish course
at an appropriate level. Housing is with local host
families. Field trips included.

The UW-Eau Claire Center for Spanish Language and Culture is
located in the province of Castile. Students participate in
a special program for foreign students at the University of
Valladolid, earning up to 16 credits in UW-Eau Claire
Spanish equivalents. Instruction is in Spanish. Housing is

This Baltic/East European Studies program is offered in
conjunction with the University of Latvia. A UW-Eau Claire
faculty member accompanies the students who take courses in
English in Baltic history, literature, political science and
ecology. Economics and some business-related coursework may
be available in English through the University of Latvia.
Field trips to cities such as St. Petersburg, Tallinn,
Helsinki, and Vilnius are included in the program fee.
Housing is with local families.
