Chancellor to lead bike tour Sept. 24

RELEASED: Sept. 20, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the third annual "Tour de Chancellor" at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 24, as one of thousands of events occurring around the world for Moving Planet Day.

For more information visit the Tour de Chancellor Facebook event page.

Participants will join Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich on a bicycle tour starting on upper campus, at the field west of Towers Hall. The 10-mile ride will utilize bike paths and bike-friendly city streets. The route will include both the Eau Claire and Chippewa rivers, Carson Park, Phoenix Park, downtown, Grand Avenue, and Owen and Boyd parks, as well as the campus and Putnam Park. This is a non-competitive ride, so casual riders are welcome.

The ride will end at the base of Garfield Hill, where the future outdoor classroom facility will be celebrated. Music and refreshments will be available on the Central Campus Mall at the end of the ride.

The event is associated with 350.org, an environmental organization dedicated to helping the world move beyond fossil fuels. Free reusable water bottles will be given away, courtesy of the Student Office of Sustainability. Bikes can be rented from the Environmental Adventure Center by 6 p.m. Friday for those who do not have one available. Bike rental costs will be covered by the SOS.

The ride is sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor and the SOS.

For more information, contact Dr. James Boulter, UW-Eau Claire's Sustainability Fellow, at 715-836-4175 or boulteje@uwec.edu.
