EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Student Senate will celebrate Constitution Day Sept. 17 by distributing more than 1,000 pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution this week.

McIntyre Library gave 1,050 copies of the Constitution to the Student Senate for Constitution Day distribution. The library procured these Constitutions from two sources: 850 came from the office of Rep. Ron Kind, and 200 came from the U.S. Government Printing Office. The library turned the Constitutions over to the Student Senate for distribution.

The pocket-sized constitutions will be available Sept. 16 at a table on the Campus Mall (rain site: entrance of Davies Center).

Robin Miller, a reference and instruction librarian for government publications at McIntyre Library, created an online research guide about the Constitution. The Constitution LibGuide includes streaming video, book recommendations and links to interactive games and activities.

Miller said she believes that all U.S. citizens should be familiar with the Constitution, but realizes it isn't always easy to read or understand.

"Many people are familiar with parts of the Constitution — for example, with the First Amendment or the 14th Amendment — but for some people, this may be the first time they've ever looked at the complete text of the Constitution," Miller said.
