EAU CLAIRE — The 70th season of The Forum at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will open with a Sept. 26 address by Dr. Debra Rowe, a pioneering voice in sustainability education and initiatives for more than 30 years. Her presentation, titled "Creating a Sustainable Future: Education, Actions and Resources for All," will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Sustainable development is a pattern of resource use that meets human needs while preserving the environment. Rowe is president of the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, an organization that brings together communities and members of the business, education, government and faith sectors to initiate sustainability projects. She helps higher education associations and institutions integrate sustainability into mission, curricula, professional development, research, student life, purchasing and investments, facilities and operations, and community partnerships. A professor of energy management, renewable energy technology and psychology at Oakland Community College in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Rowe has created online sustainability related courses and degrees with funds from the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation.

A typical Forum program includes a 60-minute lecture, a 30-minute question-and-answer session and an open reception. The program will be signed for the deaf and hard of hearing. Assistive listening devices and large print programs also are available upon request.

Tickets are $8 for the public; $6 for those 62 and older and UW System or Chippewa Valley Technical College faculty and staff; and $4 for those 17 and younger and UW System or CVTC students. Student tickets are half price, $2, until the day of the event. On the day of the event, students must pay the full student ticket price.

Tickets are available at the Service Center counter in the east lobby of Davies Center and also will be sold at the door.

Patrons also may charge their tickets to Discover, MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call 715-836-3727 or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free 800-949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

Rowe also will be featured at a free brown-bag discussion at noon Sept. 26 in the Presidents Room of Davies Center. The discussion will focus on effective strategies to address personal and organizational challenges faced by those trying to create healthier ecosystems, social systems and economies on campus and in the broader society.

Wisconsin Public Radio and Community Television have contributed generous promotional support for The Forum. The Forum also is funded in part by Visit Eau Claire ... The Unexpected Wisconsin.

Funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire, The Forum is administered by the Activities, Involvement, and Leadership office of the University Centers.
