EAU CLAIRE — Deb Freund of the University of Wisconsin-Eau-Claire biology department will discuss prairie ecosystems at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in the commons room of Towers North residence hall on the university's upper campus. Freund will present "Making a Prairie: Easy Once You Know How!" as part of "Trash Talks," a lecture series hosted by Housing and Residence Life's office of sustainability.
Freund will share the impact of agriculture on prairies, which has caused a serious decrease in habitat for many native birds and insects.
"I will discuss how individuals can put some prairie back, whether they live in town or in the country," Freund said.
The "Trash Talks" lectures are open to all students, faculty, staff and community members. Housing and Residence Life at UW-Eau Claire will host the lectures about different environmental sustainability issues the second Thursday of every month (except for September) until April from 7-8 p.m. in the commons room of Towers North residence hall. Metered and handicapped parking is available in front of Towers Hall.
Freund is an associate lecturer of biology at UW-Eau Claire. Her first prairie restoration project was a 12-acre experiment funded by the National Science Foundation.
