EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire welcomes students, faculty, staff and community members to gather Sept. 11 to remember those whose lives were lost in the terrorist attacks against the United States on that same date 10 years ago.
Participants will gather at the UW-Eau Claire footbridge over the Chippewa River beginning at 8:30 a.m. The campus carillon will sound beginning at 8:46 a.m., the time of the first attack on Sept. 11, 2001, and all will be invited to scatter rose petals from the footbridge onto the river below.
A petal will be scattered for each of the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as well as in the downing of United Airlines Flight 93.
Rose petals will be provided and will be located in containers along the footbridge.
