Continuing Education to offer adolescent mental health workshops

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension now is accepting registrations for four workshops designed for educators, youth workers, counselors, coaches, social workers, clergy members, healthcare professionals and others working with adolescents. All programs will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon at the Best Western Trail Lodge & Suites in Eau Claire.

The Adolescent Mental Health Certificate Series consists of four workshops that can be taken individually or collectively as part of a certificate in adolescent mental health. Program topics and dates are:

  • Oct. 14: "An Introduction to Adolescent Mental Health: Identifying and Conceptualizing Adolescent Problems."
  • Nov. 18: "Practical Solutions to Adolescent Behavior Problems: Helping Parents Manage Teenager Behavior."
  • Feb. 17: "The Nuts and Bolts of Adolescent Anxiety: Practical Approaches and Therapeutic Interventions."
  • March 30: "Teenagers in Despair: Helping Adolescents Manage Depression and Other Mood Problems."

The instructor for each program is Dr. Michael Axelrod, associate professor of psychology and director of the Human Development Center at UW-Eau Claire. His research and clinical interests involve finding solutions to common but potentially harmful child and adolescent problems.

The fee for each program is $89, which includes workshop materials and refreshments. Participants will earn 3.5 continuing education contact hours for each workshop for a total of 14 contact hours for the certificate.
