  • Sept. 1-2: More than 4,000 students will move in to UW-Eau Claire's residence halls this week. New students, including 1,807 freshmen and 188 transfer students, will arrive Sept. 1 beginning at 8 a.m. A total of 1,951 returning students will move in beginning at 8 a.m. Sept. 2. One hundred twenty-nine international students also will live on campus this semester. Most international students moved in Aug. 29.   • Sept. 1-2: UW-Eau Claire's 300-member Blugold Marching Band is hard at work this week polishing their 2011 season show, "A Show for the Decades." Remaining outdoor practices will be Sept. 1 from 8 a.m.-noon on the football field at Carson Park and from 4:30-6 p.m. on the grounds west of the university's Haas Fine Arts Center. The band also will perform for UW-Eau Claire's newest students Sept. 2 during a picnic for incoming freshmen to be held on the Central Campus Mall starting at 6 p.m. The group will perform this season at all Blugold home football games, at various exhibitions in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and at various international locations during a Mediterranean cruise in January. More information is available on the Blugold Marching Band website. Members of the media are welcome to photograph and videotape marching band practices.   • Sept. 3: The new Blugold Saturday Night Shuttle will begin operating Sept. 3, opening up Saturday evening entertainment options for UW-Eau Claire students without cars. The pilot shuttle program is supported by the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate and will continue every Saturday of the fall semester (except Thanksgiving weekend), providing students free transportation to Eau Claire shopping and entertainment districts that are not within walking distance during hours when city bus service is unavailable. The shuttle, which will run from 6 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday each weekend, will include pickup and drop-off stops convenient for students who live both on and off campus. The shuttle schedule, which may change as the program progresses during the semester, is available online. Members of the media are welcome to photograph and videotape students using the Blugold Saturday Night Shuttle.
