EAU CLAIRE — Internationally acclaimed indie-rock group Bon Iver will perform two concerts in December at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the alma mater of Bon Iver's leader/singer-songwriter Justin Vernon and band member Sean Carey.

Bon Iver will conclude its December tour of North America with Dec. 12 and 13 concerts at UW-Eau Claire, where Vernon earned a degree in comparative studies in religion in 2004 and where Carey, who performs on vocals and percussion, earned a music degree in 2007. Vernon, an Eau Claire native, and Carey both continue to reside in the Eau Claire area when not touring.

The December concerts will be Bon Iver's first performances at UW-Eau Claire. Ticket sales will begin Oct. 28.

Bon Iver began a sold-out European tour this week. The two UW-Eau Claire shows will wrap up a year that included the band's long-awaited "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" release, a follow-up to its 2007 debut album, "For Emma, Forever Ago."

In May and June, ahead of the release of "Bon Iver, Bon Iver," Vernon appeared twice on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," was a guest on "The Colbert Report" and also was the subject of feature stories in Billboard magazine and The New York Times Magazine. In August, Bon Iver's video for "Holocene," shot in Iceland by director Nabil Elderkin, went viral on YouTube. In September, Bon Iver played two sold-out concerts in Minneapolis, reviews of which were published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune and Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13 shows in Zorn Arena; the opening act has not been determined.

Ticketing is limited to a total of five tickets per person. Tickets will be sold from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Zorn Arena box office only. On Oct. 29, tickets will be sold from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Zorn Arena box office only. Patrons may pay by cash, check or Blugold account, or charge their tickets to Discover, MasterCard or Visa.

Beginning Oct. 30, tickets will be sold at the Service Center counter in the east lobby of Davies Center. Any tickets remaining Nov. 5 will be available through all Service Center ticketing system options.

Ticket pricing will be as follows.

  • Dec. 12: Tickets are $22 or $17 with a valid student Blugold Card. The show is general admission, with a seatless main floor and bleacher seating.
  • Dec. 13: All seats are $22. Reserved seats are available on the main floor; bleacher seating is general admission.

For questions regarding concert tickets, call the Service Center at 715-836-4636.

Vernon received UW-Eau Claire's Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award in 2010. In spring 2009 he was the subject of a feature article in the university's alumni magazine, The View.

The concerts are sponsored by University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate and Volume One Magazine.
