EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a collaborative guest artist and faculty recital featuring saxophonist Doug O'Connor and percussionist Dr. Sean Connors at 2 p.m. Oct. 23 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

O'Connor has performed across the United States and Europe, including performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall. He appeared at the World Saxophone Congress XV in Bangkok, Thailand, where he gave the world-premiere performance of Christian Lauba's 15th etude, "Worksong."

O'Connor holds a bachelor's degree in saxophone performance from the University of Maryland, where he was music director and conductor of its Philharmonia Ensemble chamber orchestra. He earned a master's degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he is currently finishing a doctoral degree while serving as associate lecturer of saxophone at UW-Eau Claire.

Connors, who teaches percussion at UW-Stevens Point, has a strong interest in contemporary music. He has made appearances with many new music groups, such as the Metropolis Ensemble, Third Coast Percussion, International Contemporary Ensemble and Society for New Music.

Connors was a featured concerto soloist with the graduate composer's Sinfonietta at the Eastman School of Music, and has twice traveled to Mexico to perform at the Cervantino Festival and Festival Internacional de Guanajuato with Eastman Broadband. He has performed the world premiere of more than 60 works and has had pieces specifically written for him by several emerging young composers.

The Oct. 23 event is free and open to the public.
