Three journalism students receive scholarships

RELEASED: Oct. 19, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — Three University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students have been awarded 2011-12 Greater Milwaukee Foundation Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Fund scholarships.

Senior Breann Schossow, Houston, Minn., and senior Megan Roltgen, Mt Calvary, each received $1,000 scholarships. Schossow is a print journalism major with minors in convergent media and political science. Roltgen is a broadcast journalism major with a minor in Latin American studies. Senior Amanda Tyler, Neillsville, received a $1,500 scholarship. She is a broadcast journalism major and geography minor.

Awards were given to full-time continuing students who are pursuing careers in radio, television or other news and entertainment communication media. The primary criteria for selection were financial need and scholastic ability. Preference was given to students who have a current relationship with Journal Communications Inc. or one of its subsidiaries.

The scholarship funds for tuition and fees are awarded in two parts — half in fall 2011 and half in spring 2012.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation is a family of more than 1,000 individual charitable funds, each created by donors, to serve the local charitable causes of their choice. Grants from funds serve people throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties and beyond. Started in 1915, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the world.
