National Coming Out Day events set for Oct. 11

RELEASED: Oct. 3, 2011

Coming Out Day

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's "Out With It!" event will feature music, stories and conversations from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 11 on the Central Campus Mall.

The event — a celebration of National Coming Out Day — will include performances by UW-Eau Claire a cappella groups Fifth Element, Audacious and Impromptu.

Information about campus and community resources also will be available.

Established in 1988, National Coming Out Day is a civil awareness day for coming out and discussion about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues. It is observed by members of the LGBT communities and their friends and allies on Oct. 11 every year.

People can share their coming out stories. Those who share their stories will receive a free (N)EAU HATE! T-shirt.

There will be several speakers during the event who represent the university and the community.

This event is free and open to the public.

For more information, contact Christopher Jorgenson, LGBTQ program coordinator, at (715) 836-2693 or jorgencj@uwec.edu.
