Students organize Nov. 30 Occupy Wall Street solidarity rally

RELEASED: Nov. 29, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — A group of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College students who have named themselves the American Civic Engagement Student Organization will host a rally in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 30 on the university's Central Campus Mall.

The nonpartisan rally is primarily an open mic event for students, faculty and staff as well as community members to express their concerns about the economy, mounting student debt, corruption in the political system and the police crackdown on the protests nationwide, said UW-Eau Claire student Nicholas Warren, a junior biochemistry/molecular biology major and organizer of the event.

Guest speakers also will be at the rally from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

"We feel that these issues need to be discussed openly and in a nonhostile manner if our democracy is to thrive," Warren said.

For more information about the rally, contact Nicholas Warren at warrennj@uwec.edu or 651-276-7313.
