EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's University Chamber Orchestra will present a concert, "A Masterpiece from a Young Composer," at 5 p.m. Nov. 30 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.
The University Chamber Orchestra will perform Felix Mendelssohn's Sinfonia No. 8 in D major, a work the composer wrote when he was only 13 years old, and Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.
The concert also will feature guest artist and French violist Aurélien Pétillot. Pétillot has been invited as a guest artist and soloist by many ensembles and orchestras in Europe and North America, both on Baroque and modern violas. Pétillot is founder and artistic director of Viola By Choice, a nonprofit chamber ensemble dedicated to promoting the originality, versatility and importance of the viola and its repertoire.
The University Chamber Orchestra is a small student string orchestra that performs two concerts, or projects, a year without a conductor. The ensemble is prepared and coached by Dr. Tulio Rondón, assistant professor of music.
The Nov. 30 recital is free and open to the public.
