RELEASED: Nov. 11, 2011

Feed the Need

EAU CLAIRE — Minneapolis pop-rock band Love Out Loud will headline a Nov. 18 concert at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire that will benefit the hungry in western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the concert that closes this year's Feed the Need benefit series. The show begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Formed in 2009, Love Out Loud is an on-the-rise band known for its energetic live show and catchy vocal melodies. The group has toured with such bands as Wavorly and I Am Empire, and has shared the stage with Family Force 5, The Almost, Superchick and The Wedding. The unsigned band's EP, "A Story Worth Telling," sold a respectable 4,000 copies in six months. Placing first in the nationally recognized Club 3 Degrees music tournament, Love Out Loud performed all 11 days at Summerfest in Milwaukee and opened for Switchfoot at Minnesota's Sonshine Festival.

The concert also will feature The Silver Heart Club, Sean Jones and The Radiance Effect.

Feed the Need is an annual benefit series founded in 2009 by Sean Jones, formerly of Survive the Drive, that aims to raise hunger awareness and funds to feed needy families in western Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. The series of events in October and November includes concerts, car washes, a haunted house, hot chocolate stands, a sculpture tour and a beer tasting event.

Proceeds and additional donations go to the Feed My People Food Bank. Every $1 donated is matched by $10 in food via Feed the Need's partnership with organizations associated with Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief charity. The only food bank in west-central Wisconsin, Feed My People is a crucial link between food manufacturers, suppliers and the front-line agencies that provide direct service to the hungry. Its large warehouse, complete with freezer and cooler space, allows for storage of vast quantities of food from which hunger relief agencies can obtain products for distribution. Feed My People distributes food to more than 85 agencies in 14 counties, helping senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need. Last year, Feed the Need raised enough funds to feed more than 1,000 needy families for Thanksgiving.

Tickets are $7 in advance at the Service Center (715-836-3727) in Davies Center and will be $10 at the door. The show is open to all ages.

Patrons may charge their tickets to MasterCard, Visa or Discover when they order by phone. Call 715-836-3727 or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free 800-949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the Student Senate.
